Social media
Social media are web-based communication tools for creating, sharing and consuming information. The key features are:
  • people interacting with each other;
  • user-generated content and profiles;
  • personalisation and personal user accounts;
  • ´like’ buttons, followers, comments and ratings;
  • profit-oriented global companies running them.
The most important social media platforms and used in public sector organisations are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Linkedinand Instagram. Communicating with citizens, stakeholders and customers via selected social media channels should be considered by all public sector organisations, taking into account the risks of data privacy and the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation.
